What is Superficial Radio Therapy?

Superficial Radio Therapy is the latest non-invasive, non-melanoma skin cancer treatment option. Superficial Radio Therapy is administered with the use of the SRT-100™, our state-of-the-art system inspired by the tried-and-true Superficial Radio Therapy systems that were once the proven gold standard among dermatologists and radiation oncologists.

The difference? Our machine has a compact 30”x30” footprint and is completely mobile.

By delivering a precise and calibrated dose of radiation that penetrates just below the skin’s surface, only a mere 5 millimeters, the SRT-100™ safely and effectively destroys malignant non-melanoma skin cancer cells. Our system carefully eliminates the basal or squamous carcinoma cells all the while preserving the healthy tissues surrounding the treatment area.

What is a Precise and Calibrated Dose of Radiation?

When we say precise and calibrated doses of radiation, we are referring to x-rays, which are a form of electromagnetic radiation. These x-rays are made up of photons, or light particles. X-rays are a form of light that is invisible to the human eye, as the wavelength is outside of the visible spectrum of light.

The SRT-100™ blasts the non-melanoma skin cancer cells with these very controlled amounts of radiation, or electromagnetic energy, to disrupt and halt the mitosis process.

What is Mitosis?

Mitosis is the process through which all cells in the human body reproduce. A cell duplicates its chromosomes, and then rips itself in half, resulting in two genetically identical cells. To put it simply, mitosis is cell division.

Cancer arises when the mitosis process goes out of control, spreading malignant cells throughout the body. In some cases, the abnormal cell growth is so extreme that a tumor grows. When cancer has spread throughout the entire body, this is called metastasis.

Why Does Superficial Radio Therapy Stop Mitosis?

The precise and calibrated dose of Superficial Radio Therapy we mentioned above damages the cancer cell DNA, prohibiting them from growing, dividing, and eventually causing them to die.
